This week, the DOJ’s latest court filing for its legal battle against Google confirms that they are still calling for a breakup of the tech giant. Their document states that the DOJ “continues to require Google to divest Chrome.”
Meanwhile, Google continues to experiment with its features. It’s now experimenting with an AI-only search engine, currently launched exclusively for Google One AI Premium subscribers. According to a Google spokesperson, the feature aims to meet the demand for more AI-written search responses. This week, it also removed diverse language from its Responsible AI Team webpage.
Elsewhere in the big tech landscape, Apple and Meta are set to face fines from the EU for breaching the Digital Markets Act, although nothing has been confirmed just yet. There’s even more trouble brewing for Meta, as French publishers filed a lawsuit against it for allegedly using their copyrighted content to train its AI models without authorisation.
