This week on The Stack: Omnicom Acquisition Rocks Industry; TikTok’s Last Hope to Beat US Ban; Today's MadTech Daily
Undoubtedly, the biggest news of the week for the ad tech industry was Omnicom’s acquisition of Interpublic Group. The deal was approved by both groups’ boards. Both groups will now merge to form a single marketing and sales entity. Elsewhere in the M&A ambit, news broke that Channel Factory has been holding talks with potential backers.
TikTok losing an appeal against its ban in the US also rocked the industry. Just over a month away, the date set for the ban looms. Now, we wait to see whether TikTok will have success with its request for an emergency injunction to pause the ban until the Supreme Court considers the matter. Preparing itself for a huge loss of the US market, the platform launched TikTok Shop in Spain this week.
Other launches also made headlines this week, including Skyscanner’s new advertising platform which leverages a trove of first-party data, as well as Apple finally rolling out ChatGPT to iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
