GroupM Teams Up with Tesco; IAB Tech Lab Releases Final Privacy Sandbox Analysis; TikTok Launches “Deals For You Days”

On today’s news digest: GroupM Teams Up with Tesco; IAB Tech Lab Releases Final Privacy Sandbox Analysis; TikTok Launches “Deals For You Days”

GroupM has announced a partnership with Tesco Media and Insight Platform. The media group’s partnership with one of the UK’s largest food retailers will help them position their clients and brands in a favourable environment, and will benefit them across areas of retail media including data, insights, and strategic planning. GroupM will gain access to Tesco Media and Insight Platform’s Insights module and advanced Clients Success support. Tesco describes the move as a step towards more integrated retail media planning at a holistic, full-funnelled, strategic level.

In the privacy panorama, the IAB Tech Lab has released its final Privacy Sandbox Fit Analysis. Following extensive analysis, the Privacy Sandbox Task Force – assembled by the lab – evaluated the solution and brought its issues to further attention. As IAB states, this period was primarily focused on identifying items which were technically incorrect or failed to consider existing APIs in their initial approach. IAB has now released the updates which were made to the final draft. The Task Force’s concerns regarding the solution remain unchanged, however. Hillary Slattery, a member of the Task Force, states: “In its current form, the Privacy Sandbox will restrict the digital media industry’s ability to deliver relevant, effective advertising, placing smaller media companies and brands at significant risk. The lack of functionality will throttle their ability to compete, ultimately impacting the industry’s growth.”

Stepping up in an attempt to compete with giants in the e-commerce space, TikTok has launched “Deals For You Days”. Starting from 9th July, TikTok is inviting shoppers to experience a series of live video streams which will promote exclusive discounts and bundles from brands and creators across a range of products including beauty, lifestyle, fashion, books and home. Brands which will offer exclusive discounts include L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline New York and Benefit Cosmetics.
