This week on The Stack: Podcasting Booms; the Latest from OpenAI; PayPal Plans Ad Network; Today's MadTech Daily Podcast
With the release of Spotify’s latest Global Trends report, the streaming platform showed us that podcasting is bigger than ever. According to the data, podcast advertising revenue has been growing at a faster rate than music advertising revenue. In the UK, sports has been driving more people to the platform: the category was one of the fastest growing, seeing a 74% increase.
OpenAI featured heavily in the news this week. The company announced the introduction of a Safety and Security Committee to be responsible for making recommendations relating to safety and security on their projects. However, the committee will be led solely by company executives (CEO Sam Altman and directors Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo and Nicole Seligman). OpenAI also made headlines for its latest deal: PwC is set to become the first reseller of OpenAI’s flagship product, ChatGPT.
Elsewhere in the ad tech ecosystem, PayPal revealed plans to form an ad network. The digital payments company will build the ad business around the data it generates from tracking users’ purchases and broader spending behaviours.
