Google Delays Cookie Deprecation for the Third Time; US Senate Shakes up the Social Media World

This week on The Stack: Google Delays Cookie Deprecation for the Third Time; US Senate Shakes up the Social Media World

It has been a big week of news in the world of ad tech. Shaking up the advertising ecosystem once again, Google announced it would be delaying third party cookie deprecation for the third time. The search giant cited regulators as the cause. Cookie deprecation is now expected to go ahead at the start of next year.

The US Senate also shook the social media world, finally passing a revised version of the bill which will ban TikTok if its China-based parent company, ByteDance, does not divest it. In order to push the bill through faster, it was packaged alongside other bills which sought to provide humanitarian aid and military assistance.

Moving over to the TV landscape, Netflix attracted over 9 million new subscribers in Q1; the streaming leader also said it would stop reporting subscriber numbers each quarter. Meanwhile, SkyShowtime and Paramount have announced an ad sales partnership. Their collaboration will see Paramount handling SkyShowtime’s advertising sales across all markets.
