This week on The Stack: Big Tech in Hot Water Under Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act; Spotify to Provide More Educational Content with Video Based Lessons
Big tech has been in hot water lately. Apple was hit with an antitrust lawsuit brought forward by the US Department of Justice along with 15 US states, alleging the tech giant monopolised smartphone markets.
In Europe, both the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA) have been shaking up the landscape. The European Commission (EC) announced it would be launching investigations into Alphabet, Apple, and Meta for non-compliance of the DMA; the EU also ruled that Amazon must provide greater ad transparency under the DMA. Meanwhile, the EC has published election security guidelines for platforms to follow under the regulations of the DSA.
In the world of video, the BBC is looking to reform the licence fee. Warner Bros Discovery will be launching Max in Europe this spring, and Spotify is testing out video learning courses on its platform for UK users in a move to provide more educational content.
