In the antitrust ambit, India’s antitrust body has ordered an investigation into Google’s app store billing practices. Google’s policies were deemed “unfair” and “discriminatory” by the regulator, following complaints filed by multiple Indian app developers and industry groups. The regulator has asked its investigative arm to conclude the investigation within two months. 

While TikTok faces a potential ban from Washington in the coming months, its US sales hit record figures last year, at $16bn (£12.5bn). With global revenues reaching $120bn (£94bn) in 2023 – up around 40% from the previous year – the video platform is on track to overtake Meta as the world’s largest social media company by sales. Meta reported a revenue of $135bn (£106bn) last year, increasing 16% from 2022. 

In the world of artificial intelligence, OpenAI has signed partnerships with Spain’s Prisa Media (owner of El País) and France’s Le Monde. The partnerships will grant ChatGPT users access to high-quality content produced by both publications, as well as allowing the AI giant to use their content to train its AI models.
