This week, on The Stack: TikTok May Face US Ban; Google & TikTok Make Updates to Comply with Digital Markets Act; Retail Sales Dip
TikTok dominated news about social platforms this week. If passed, a newly proposed bill in the US means the video giant would be banned from US app stores unless it cuts ties with its Chinese owned parent company, ByteDance. Additionally, the video platform announced changes to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Another tech giant also made changes to its services to comply with the DMA: Google introduced updates to data sharing and alternative billing options, among others. The tech giant also recently made headlines for the announcement of its India merger with Reliance.
Meanwhile, the retail landscape is suffering, with retailers currently experiencing the longest dip in sales since 2020. Fashion was the most impacted category, seeing in-store sales decrease over 8%.
