Today on the ExchangeWire digest: Amazon Faces Lawsuit Over Prime Video Ad Tier; X to Allow More Control Over Ad Placement; TikTok Moves to Tackle Disinformation
In addition to being faced with ads, users of Amazon Prime Video’s ad-supported streaming tier are now also being stripped of the higher quality images and video the service once provided to Prime subscribers free of charge. Subscribers who opt-in to ad-supported streaming will not get Dolby Vision images or Dolby Atmos audio benefits, the branded names for a video experience enhanced by High Dynamic Range (HDR). Some subscribers have joined a Class Action lawsuit against the tech titan, alleging deception over the sudden charge for something users thought they had already paid for.
Persevering in its efforts to lure advertisers back to the platform, X will be allowing brands more control over ad placement. Following the detrimental events which took it off the advertising radar for big names such as Disney, many other brands have been erring on the side of caution with their ad spend. Using X Ads Manager, advertisers will be able to run ads alongside the content of particular creators. Soon they will also be adding the option to serve ads solely on an individual creator’s profile. The creators which will be included in the program are yet to be revealed.
While X attempts to regain its rank among the social media giants, TikTok makes a move to tackle disinformation. The video platform will be opening in-app localised election resources to direct users towards trusted information in the run ups to regional elections this year. The resource bank will open next month to users in the EU. TikTok has not announced any new measures relating to AI generated deepfakes, however.
