The Stack: Google and Match resolve antitrust claim; Meta to launch ad-free paid subscription plans

This week: Google and Match resolve antitrust claim; Meta to launch ad-free paid subscription plans; AI concerns to be addressed at UK AI summit…

As we settle into November, we’ve seen a couple of the biggest legal cases in the advertising landscape move towards a resolution: Google and Match agreed to drop all claims and counterclaims against each other, while Temu and Shein applied to put an end to their legal battle

In the world of social platforms, Meta revealed its plan to launch ad-free paid subscription plans for both Facebook and Instagram in Europe. YouTube also confirmed a crack down on the use of ad blockers.

In the UK, a two-day AI summit was held to consider the potential threats society faces from AI developments, with the objective of discussing how these could be mitigated. This week also saw the release of AA/WARC’s latest Expenditure Report, which reported a growth of just 1% for the UK’s advertising market.

On this week's episode of the MadTech podcast, we spoke with Trapo's George Ionut Danifeld about 'fake OOO' advertising, increased usage on shopping apps, TikTok Shop's ban in Indonesia and more. You can listen to the full episode here.
