BBC to Launch FAST Channels via Amazon Freevee; Germany’s FCO Warns AI Could Bolster Big Tech

In today's ExchangeWire news digest: BBC Studios prepares to launch new FAST channels; the head of Germany's Federal Cartel Office has warned AI may enhance the monopoly of big tech; and X limits reply functionality on the site.

BBC Studios to launch five FAST channels

UK broadcaster BBC Studios is preparing five free, ad-supported streaming TV channels in the US via Amazon's Freevee service. The FAST channels, which are set to go live on 17th October, signal the latest developments in the BBC's AVOD and FAST strategy.

FCO warns AI may bolster Big Tech's dominance

The head of Germany's Federal Cartel Office (FCO), Andreas Mundt, has warned developing AI may provide new ways for Big Tech to operate anticompetitively. Speaking to Reuters on Friday (6th October), Mundt warned that regulators must ensure that "this new technology does not further strengthen the dominance of the large corporations".

X limits reply functionality

In the latest update to X, the social media platform has limited post reply functionality for non-paying users. The paywall will mean site users who do not pay for X Premium will be unable to add to discussions under certain posts. The move comes amid reports that Elon Musk is exploring new subscription models for the platform.
