Twitch Abandons Ad Rules After Backlash; Barcelona’s Limit to Ride-Hailing Apps Overturned by EU Court

In today's ExchangeWire news digest: Twitch trashes new advertising rules following backlash from streamers; EU overturns restrictions on ride-hailing apps in Barcelona; and Singapore launches a new national programme to fend off future quantum threats.

Twitch scraps planned advertising changes

Streaming heavyweight Twitch is abandoning its new advertising rules after they caused some streamers to boycott the platform. The livestreaming service had planned to restrict the size and type of adverts content creators could use, a move which would have significantly reduced the ways in which they could generate income. After several creators left the platform, Twitch tweeted it was removing the rules "immediately".

EU court rejects Barcelona's block on ride-hailing apps

A ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union has overturned Barcelona's restrictions on the number of cars which can work with ride-hailing apps in the city. Barcelona had set out numerous rules to reduce the number of drivers working with apps such as Uber to protect the interests of taxi services. In its ruling, however, the Court deemed the justifications for the restrictions as "contrary to European law".

Singapore launches programme against future quantum threats

Singaporean authorities are developing a new network intended to protect banks, hospitals, and other establishments from quantum threats in the future. The newly launched National Quantum-Safe Network Plus programme will see the nation's Telcos enhance existing fibre networks so they can stave off attacks by quantum computers in the future. Approved operators will each build a nationwide quantum-safe network to protect the businesses connected to it, according to Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority.
