In today's ExchangeWire news digest: Meta lobbied Irish ministers over data transfers; JioCinema usurps Disney to break streaming world record; and Nvidia announces it is building Israel's most powerful supercomputer.
Facebook-parent Meta has reportedly lobbied Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Minister for Enterprise Simon Coveney over the transfer of EU users’ data to the US. The firm said it was “seeking Ireland’s support for resolution of EU-US data transfer issues”. The move comes as reports have emerged that NHS trusts are sharing sensitive information about patients’ medical conditions and treatments with Facebook without their consent.
JioCinema, an Indian streaming platform whose backers include Viacom18, has broken the world record for the most concurrent views to a live streamed event. The platform drew over 32 million viewers to the finale of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, overtaking the previous record-holder, Disney’s Hotstar.
Nvidia has announced that it is building Israel’s most advanced supercomputer as demand for artificial intelligence within the nation soars. Senior VP of Nvidia, Gilad Shainer, elaborated that the company has worked with 800 start-ups in Israel and tens of thousands of software developers, with the cloud-based set to be partly operational by the end of 2023.
